The Great War – A Re-write

Not that it’s a close call or anything, but I’ve completed all the goals I set myself for August. ARPG has V1.0 out, and now I’ve finally got a newer version of the ancient history of the world uploaded onto the site.

Re-writing the history was a little trickier than I suspected. The initial version had a war which was waged against demons who were bent on killing everything, and whose motivations were to burn and destroy the entire world simply because they thought it was a good idea. In these events, the demons sacked Allyon, the atian capitol, and then used a magical device known as the Magic Flux to increase their size of their armies before they marched on further before the final battle was fought

Things have developed since this time, since now the ‘demons’ are just misunderstood entities from another realm who want to get home. Dealing with these new demons was trickier because, in the initial story, the demons would attack and attack and attack, whereas the ‘new demons’ stopped once they had the Flux – they just needed it to get home.

So, I needed the ‘good guys’ to be the aggressors from that point on, fearing that the demons were using the Flux for nefarious deeds.

I had to re-think some of the geography of the world, though thankfully it only came down to swapping two cities around, since the final battle, and the scars left from it, now occur at a slightly different location.

Live streaming these thoughts and getting ideas from people who were willing to watch them really helped here. While I’d like to think most of the work and ideas are mine, it would be extremely remiss of me to exclude the input people had in helping me overcome the niggling issues which cropped up during this.

I’m happy with the new version of events. The final battle is slightly less epic, but it feels less contrived, with fault on both sides contributing to the events which caused The Sundering and leading to Modern-day Iiosia. It could also be described as, dare I say it, more mature!

The main pages of writings now appear on the Writings>Sagas page but I had to make many small adjustments throughout the site in light of these changes.

Now it’s onto September wherein I hope to finish a short story and perhaps give myself one or two other projects to busy myself with.

Thanks all!

Inferis

Two in one day!

As part of my re-writing of the ancient lore on the creation of Iiosia, I did a bit of work on Inferis.

Inferis is a realm of chaos, and it was exposure to this realm which brought about such vast changes to the world upon which Iiosia is set.

I want to change the current lore so that the denizens of Inferis are not simply creatures of brutality and death, but simply aliens who are born of change. As such, some of the events within the ancient histories and the great war need to change since the demons’ motives are now different. I ironed out many of the issues I faced with this on a livestream two weeks ago, and now set about re-writing things to better fit this new idea.

As a starting point, I decided establish what Inferis actually is. I hope to get this change totally completed within the next few days.

The Deadkin

A short article today (and honestly, not a very well written one) on the Deadkin.

The deadkin are the remains of the dwarves after their homes were destroyed by massive earthquakes.

I’d been struggling on what to fill the dwarvern holds with for a while. I didn’t want the inhabitants to be simply zombies, but something more sinister  and different. I’ve gone with the idea of spirits which can drive those who see them mad with fear, and which emit an aura of cold so profound that it can freeze those who come into contact with them.

That should keep the treasure hunters at bay!

As i say, the article isn’t currently very good. It’s a first draft, and really served as a warm-up to me going on and writing something more involved. I decided to upload it, though, rather than have it languish on my hard drive and be forgotten about. At least if I think someone might read it sometime, it will encourage me to re-write it at some point!

The Veriaxe

I’ve added a quick article on The Veriaxe – a mighty axe wielded by a demon in ancient times.

This is a really tongue in cheek article. It’s a blatant reference to Veriax, which is both my YouTube handle and the name of a major character in the follow-on setting for Iiosia – Agniton.

It’s also a ridiculously powerful refract. So much so that I doubt it will ever play any part in any of the canon lore of either Iiosia or Agniton. Still, it’s nice to have it there as an easter egg for anyone who stumbles upon it.
